As the pair travel to the Bitter Kingdoms, Lukien loses almost everything and everyone he cares for. Only then does the spirit that inhabits his magical sword reveal his true destiny. This fourth entry in a series that tracks Lukien's journey as a knight (after The Sword of Angels) incorporates elements of Arthurian fantasy into a story of a man who must overcome his own feelings of unworthiness to achieve greatness. VERDICT Marco navigates epic fantasy with a sure hand and a keen eye for detail. Reminiscent of Michael Moorcock's "Eternal Champion" series, Lukien's latest adventure should appeal to most fans of epic and high fantasy.
